I-Share application action by CARLI Board

At its September 29, 2006 meeting, the CARLI Board of Directors acted on the I-Share applications of fifteen institutions. The Board accepted the applications of nine institutions for implementation by summer 2007.

Additionally, the Board endorsed a proposal to conduct a subsequent I-Share implementation for summer2008 and, to “pre-approve” five  institutions that applied this year, assuming that those institutions remain interested in I-Share participation next year. Finally, the Board did not approve an application from the American College of Education, which was deemed to be premature, because the institution is just beginning to establish its academic programs and library.

The institutions that will be implemented in 2006-2007 are:

  • Carl Sandburg College, Galesburg
  • Illinois Eastern Community Colleges,
  • IECC comprises four institutions that share a common administrative structure that will be one CARLI member. IECC will have one I-Share database serving Frontier Community College, Fairfield; Lincoln Trail College, Robinson; Olney Central College, Olney; and Wabash Valley College, Mt. Carmel
  • Knox College, Galesburg
  • Monmouth College, Monmouth
  • Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, Peoria
  • Trinity International University, Deerfield

The institutions that were pre-approved for 2007-2008 are:
  • Adler School of Professional Psychology, Chicago
  • Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Chicago
  • Erikson Institute, Chicago
  • Harrington College of Design, Chicago
  • Rush University Medical Center, Chicago

CARLI will now begin working with Endeavor Information Systems, the vendor of the Voyager system on which I-Share is based, to amend CARLI’s Endeavor contract to include the institutions in the 2006-2007 implementation round. Once the contract is amended, CARLI staff will begin working with these libraries on planning their transition to I-Share. Planning meetings with the nine libraries will likely begin in November, and the libraries should be online with I-Share in summer 2007.

In spring 2007, CARLI will announce the timeline and process for the next I-Share application round and will contact the 5 pre-approved institutions regarding their intent to proceed with I-Share implementation. Additional libraries may be accepted for the 2007-2008 round, depending on the various characteristics and volume of applicants in 2007.

With the addition of the “class of 2007,” I-Share will grow from its current 65 library databases, to 71 library databases (this figure reflects that the four Illinois Eastern Community Colleges will be considered as one in CARLI and I-Share.) The new I-Share participants have combined holdings of over 790,000 items and serve over 17,000 students.
