CARLI Announces the Opening of the Database Fall Subscription Period for Calendar Year 2008

The password protected CARLI selection database is now available at a new url. The selection period will run from October 23, 2007 to November 19, 2007.

Complete instructions for using the selection database are available at the selection database url. Institutional Login ID’s and passwords distributed in previous years remain valid. If you did not obtain an ID/password, or have misplaced it, please contact David Hamilton or Diane Day.

Important Information about the Fall CARLI Brokering Program:

1. Database pricing from the following vendors is available now:

Duke University Press (eDuke Scholarly Collection)
KCDLonline
MathSciNet
NewsBank (Chicago Tribune, America’s Newspapers, Access World News)
[TRIAL available via Try-It-Illinois through November. Username and Password are both: ncdillinois]
Project Muse
ProQuest (Chicago Tribune)

As soon as they become available, prices from the following vendor(s) will be added to the selection database:

American Chemical Society (Web Editions, Web Editions Archive, C&EN Online)
Blackwell (Wiley) Publishing (HHS, STM and Full Collection)
eHRAF (Archaeology, Ethnography)

In addition, CARLI members can now subscribe to/renew access to the OCLC WorldCat Collection Analysis product.

The selection system reflects a cost of $0.00 for this product but there are costs associated with a subscription. In the comments section you will find the URL for a spreadsheet with information about specific costs for your institution. Please use the selection system to indicate your interest in subscribing to this product and a member of the CARLI staff will contact you to discuss the OCLC symbols to be included in your subscription and the associated costs.

2. Please note that you may not see a price entered for some of the vendors indicated above because the vendor provides a custom price for each subscriber. If you wish to receive a price for any database listed above, please contact David Hamilton, Cindy Clennon or Diane Day.

3. CARLI has stressed to all participating vendors that the pricing they offer through the database brokering program should represent the lowest price available to that institution. If your institution obtains a lower quotation from any of the participating vendors, we would appreciate being made aware, so we may follow-up.

4. The comments provided by vendors in the CARLI Selection Database provide important information to help you interpret the price listed. PLEASE READ THE VENDOR COMMENTS CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING YOUR FINAL DATABASE SELECTIONS.

Fall 2007 Database Selection Timeline:

October 23 – November 19, 2007 - Selections made online through the CARLI Selection Database

November 26, 2007 - Final subscription lists are submitted to vendors

December 1-15, 2007 - Preliminary billing estimates sent to subscribing libraries for review

January 1, 2008 - Service begins for calendar year 2007

After January 1, 2008 – Final bills sent to subscribing libraries
