New I-Share Union Catalog

All public access to the I-Share Universal Catalog has been redirected to the new VuFind Union Catalog. As of 6AM on Tuesday, June 1, 2010the URL for the Universal Catalog, https://i-share.carli.illinois.edu/uc automatically connects users to the VuFind union catalog. No changes have been made to I-Share libraries' local catalogs as part of this change to the union catalog.

CARLI staff have developed several resources to provide more information about VuFind and the new Union Catalog, including general information, frequently asked questions, and a recording of CARLI's May 18 webinar about VuFind and the Universal Catalog.

ILLINET libraries that have an existing I-Share ID for resource sharing should visit the VuFind Accounts and Logins FAQ for details on how to set up a VuFInd account.

In the last several days CARLI staff have made many minor modifications to the VuFind interface, in response to suggestions from users. Recent changes include enhancements to the logon and account creation pages, and adjustments to the request page in the union catalog that are intended to make it easier for the user request a different copy of a title, if for some reason the user's first choice turns out to be unrequestable. (Note that these VuFind request changes apply only to the public user interface. The Voyager "request promotion" function continues to work "behind the scenes" to redirect requests that cannot be filled by the library.)

Libraries that present VuFind to their users as their local OPAC may be interested in new customization opportunities, including the opportunity to add a link to VuFind that will lead users to the WebVoyage course reserves search page. The revised customization form is available on the CARLI web site.

CARLI encourages libraries that have developed user instruction materials related to VuFind to share them with your I-Share colleagues via the VuFind Tutorials wiki page.
