Library Assistant - McKendree University

McKendree University seeks applications for an evening library assistant whose job responsibilities will include assisting with technical and public services plus data entry for grants. This is a 10-month hourly position, August through May of each year. The hours are Sunday through Thursday, 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Primary Duties:

  • Managing the library during the evening shift, with the assistance of student workers.
  • Assisting library users, answering basic questions, and instructing them on the use of copiers, printers, and other library technology.
  • Provide patient and friendly customer service to library users.
  • Ongoing technical services projects including material processing, cataloging, and statistics.
  • Assisting with library material orders which includes using Microsoft Access.
  • Serving as support for library faculty.
  • Maintaining office supplies and files.
  • Assisting with grant related projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications: High school diploma and basic proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to adapt and learn new skills on the job along with having organization and time management skills.

Preferred qualifications: College-level coursework or Library Technician degree; prior experience working in an academic library. Experience in customer service.
