Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Kim Hale (Columbia College Chicago) – The strike is over on Columbia College Chicago’s campus.
    • Christina Norton (Bradley University) - After not receiving any applications for our OER mini-grant in fall 2023, Christina got the go-ahead to send out another call for applications this spring. Money is still available and allocated for this purpose.
    • Dee Anna Phares (Northern Illinois University) - The LOEX 2024 Conference Planning Committee invites you to submit lightning talk proposals for consideration to the 52nd Annual LOEX Conference. The conference will be held May 2-4, 2024.  A small, but fun & invigorating, part of the LOEX Conference are the Lightning Talks, which are a great way to share with a big group of people your ideas and best practices that don't warrant a full-blown, almost hour-long, breakout session. Topics can be practical implementations or conceptual ideas, and they should showcase effective practices or highlight new projects in various stages of development.  Proposals can be submitted only through the online submission form and must be received by Monday, January 22, 2024.
    • Lauren Kosrow (College of DuPage) - There is an interesting discussion on Inclusive Access on the SPARC email list on this topic.
      • SPARC Open email list – forward forthcoming from Elizabeth Clarage to the committee.
  • CARLI Announcements:
  • OER Grant session rescheduled because the application is not yet available  from the Illinois State Library.
    • Other Sessions: January 17 at 3 p.m. and January 19 at 12 p.m.
  • CARLI Student Course Materials Affordability Survey update
    • 4733 students participated in the survey.
    • Survey closed December 31, 2023.
    • 32 Illinois Institutions participated in the survey.
    • Divided and split the open-ended comments question between the team to review for any self-identified students.
    • Testimonials are heartbreaking.
    • Sharing data by February 2 with those institutions that responded to Nicole’s email about this.
    • March 5, 2024 program to share the survey results with student voices
    • CARLI will be sharing data from the survey via PowerBI with a dashboard potentially to put on the CARLI website.

        • Reviewed other OER Consortium webpages and determined in the future we will revamp our webpages to be more user-friendly.
          • The navigation titles of the pages seem less clear than they could be, so a future project could be cleaning this up and making it clearer.
            • Possibly a summer or next year project to accomplish this website re-vamp.
            • If you see anything on the website review, we are currently doing that could be changed and/or updated, make a note of that for the future.
            • Beware of character limits in right-hand navigation.
          • Maybe organizing by audience too, like For faculty, administrators., for administrators.
            • Determined this page is mostly for librarians.
