Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • No announcements
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • CARLI is working with Illinois College of Optometry and St John’s College of Nursing to be added to I-Share by June 2023. UIC Law (formerly John Marshall Law School) is being added to UIC’s instance of Alma. Other I-Share new additions will be started in September 2023 and will be live by June 2024. Chicago History Museum will be added by June 2026.
    • Events of note:
    • Open Education week coming March 6-10 with several CARLI events scheduled, including panels of faculty who have adopted OA and recipients of CARLI SCOERs grants.
    • Commercial Products Committee Planning Committee has a series of talks on Open Access. The first is scheduled March 1 at 10am.
    • E-resources Management Committee will have a discussion on February 16 at 10am to expand on past work with Alma Analytics and E-Resources.
    • CARLI is just beginning the FY24 selection cycle. Hope to have work finished by end of March. Product updates:
    • Video license with Proquest is up for renewal. When CARLI purchased Alexander St Press collections in 2012-2013, they paid for 10 years of access fees. These are now expiring and libraries will have to choose whether to pay those fees themselves to maintain access.
    • Commercial Products Committee approved a vendor proposal from Kanopy for Kanopy Base, a subscription to a single core collection. They hope this will be added to collection system by the spring.
    • CARLI negotiations with ebook vendors are ongoing.
    • Public Services Committee is conducting a survey on changes in public services and will be using results to plan a program later this spring.

Discussion

  • Archives Subcommittee
    • The survey has been sent out and has received 40 responses so far.
  • Open Access Subcommittee
    • First round of collections was evaluated and selections have been added to Alma network zone. Selections will also be added to CARLI website so non-I-Share libraries can benefit from the committee’s evaluation. Committee is also following up with institutions that had locally activated collections in case they would prefer to use the network version.
    • The following collections were approved and activated as of 1/31: African Journals Online, Cambridge Open Access Books and Elements, Duke University Press Open Access Journals, EBSCOhost ebook Open Access, Getty Research Institute, Project Muse Open Access Journals, University of Chicago Press Open Access.
  • Weeding eBooks Subcommittee
    • Committee met yesterday and is beginning work to evaluate title lists from ebook collections. Started with Health and Self-help and will continue with Computer Science and Business.
    • Goal is to create a separate collection of potentially outdated titles with a note indicating its purpose to users.
  • DEI Continuing Education Programming Subcommittee
    • First meeting is being planned but date has not yet been set.
