What Words Does VuFind Not Look Up? (Stop Words)

To protect the speed with which the I-Share catalog is able to respond to searches, VuFind (both VuFind 0.6 and New VuFind) ignores very common English words and contractions, sometimes called "stop words." If you search for a title with many stop words in it, you may retrieve more results than you expect. For example, a title search for Into the wild will retrieve any title with the word "wild" in it; VuFind's search algorithm will not require that the other two words also be in the title. On the other hand, if you search for a title made up entirely of stop words, such as No there there, VuFind will respond that your search "did not match any resources." In these situations, you can search in VuFind some other way (by author or subject, for instance), or you can try your search again in the WebVoyage interface to the catalog.
