Visiting Librarian - Waubonsee Community College

The Visiting Librarian will provide high quality services to enrich our campus community and demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment. This position reports to the Director of Library Services. This position is expected to continue until the start of the '23 fall semester. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person and online reference services to students, faculty, staff and community members.
  • Create and maintain online instructional resources.
  • Participate and play a lead role in print and electronic collection development responsibilities.
  • Provide basic technology assistance to library users and work collaboratively with other librarians and library staff in the use of library hardware and software applications, including contributing content to the library website.
  • Assist with the development of library and information programs and services, including outreach and awareness building activities.
  • Assist in the publication of the library webpage, social media outlets, and information resource guides.
  • Act as a liaison to assigned departments and assist in collection management activities in all forms of library information resources.
  • Maintain current awareness of professional practice and commitment to personal career development activities.
  • Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on college-wide committees.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Create and conduct information literacy instructions in a variety of modalities.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission in a student-centered environment.
  • Perform other duties and complete projects as assigned by the Director of Library Services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution required.
  • One year of library experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability in using a variety of formats to provide reference services to a diverse population of learners.
  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the service role of the library in a learner-centered environment.
  • Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Library instruction experience, especially in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of identifying and utilizing Open Educational Resources.
  • Experience with LibGuides or other content resources.
  • Experience using video creation software.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Work Schedule: Other M-W and Friday, 8am to 4:30pm; Thursday, 12:30 to 9:00pm

Special Instructions: Primary location will be at the Sugar Grove campus, but there may be instances where coverage is needed at the other campus libraries. Please attach all required documents at time of application.
