Student Technology and Library Services Manager - Waubonsee Community College

Under the direction of the Director of Library Services, the Student Technology and Library Services Manager will help to establish and implement the vision and goals for student technology support and library services. The manager will provide leadership in the development and expansion of college-wide student technology services through planning, organizing, and managing student technology and library services operations, including but not limited to circulation services, outreach, student training, leadership for the student technology advisory group, and student technology management (ex. software, systems, and student x-cards). 

The scope of responsibility also includes all libraries’ points of service delivery, as well as the development and administration of division policies, procedures, and processes. This manager will supervise a team of student technology support staff, as well as circulation and library services specialists. This position will collaborate with students and employees across the college in developing and maintaining effective standards and programs that ensure the libraries’ and students’ success.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight and directs the expansion and implementation of student technology support services.
  • Supervises, hires, evaluates, and trains library employees in the areas of technical services, circulation services and student technology support.
  • Responds to planned and emergency outages impacting libraries and student technology.
  • Resolves issues with vendors and communicates with impacted stakeholders including administration, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Addresses and responds to a broad variety of library and student support issues, participates in related committees, task forces, and other groups and associations as appropriate.
  • Acts as primary liaison for student technology support across the college.
  • Stays current on regulatory changes and evaluates and communicates the impact of potential legal or regulatory changes on the College and makes recommendations as it relates to student technology.
  • Develops and implements technology strategy for college-wide student technology needs.
  • Creates and builds student technology support model including training, web presence, communication technologies and methods, and identification of new technologies.
  • Provides leadership for staffing public facing service desks across all library locations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five years of library experience required. Experience with working knowledge of academic libraries, academic support, academic technologies, and information technology/computer science or online education, strongly preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience required.
  • Analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and making recommendations in support of goals.
  • Adapting to rapidly changing environments.
  • Analyzing opportunities and making recommendations based on findings.
  • Communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Researching, analyzing, and applying relevant information to the development of library and student technology processes and programs.
  • Coordinating activities with other internal departments and/or external agencies.
  • Utilizing computer technology used for communication, data gathering and reporting.
  • Conducting research to identify solutions, resolve problems, or provide information.
  • Utilizing computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting activities.
