Student Engagement Librarian - Greenville University

The Student Engagement Librarian will lead the development of a comprehensive information literacy curriculum, incorporating evidence-based instructional design practices in support of the College's diverse learning community. The Student Engagement Librarian will design and maintain accessible learning materials to support the information literacy curriculum, perform regular assessments, and collaborate with campus partners to ensure the library instruction program supports student success.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and implements comprehensive information literacy curriculum, incorporating evidence-based instructional design practices that recognize the needs of diverse learners.
  • Designs and maintains learnings materials and tools supportive of the information literacy curriculum, performing regular assessments in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Acts as a liaison with campus partners (e.g. Student Success, Experience Hub, Center for Teaching and Learning) to ensure the library instruction program supports student success. Fosters partnerships to enhance the library instruction program and student engagement.
  • Teaches instruction programs with primary focus on First Year Studies (UNIV 101).
  • Helps students and faculty learn about the value and use of libraries for their academic and personal success. Guides the library's instructional outreach to students and faculty along with the Dean of Library Services.
  • Provides in-depth reference for students, faculty, and staff about research projects, individually or in small groups; and provides research and reference services in person and through email, chat, conferencing software, phone, etc.
  • Manage student workers at the Circulation desk and train them to successfully help their peers locate and use resources.
  • Oversee Course Reserves and be the main contact for all Circulation or Fulfillment activities
  • Participates in campus committees and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • Evidence of competence in planning, project management, and/or data management
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and excellent customer service skills
  • Plan to work one evening per week. Additional weekend work may be required based on campus community needs
  • Ability to plan, manage, and oversee multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in alignment with the strategic goals of the Library and the University
  • Knowledge of current trends in Information Literacy Instruction, including best practices and a commitment to exploring how developing trends can be applied to transform local operations
  • Sustain an affirming, creative, collaborative, and ethical work environment, fostering respect among library and campus colleagues
  • Foster a thriving instruction program and a user-focused commitment to accessibility in support of Greenville University's commitment to acting as an anti-racist institution

Preferences

  • Reference and instruction experience in an academic library preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations preferred
  • Familiarity with academic environments and course design
