Research & Instruction Librarian - Augustana College

Thomas Tredway Library – Augustana College, Rock Island, IL*, invites applications for a Research & Instruction Librarian. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt, non-tenure-track faculty position in the Thomas Tredway Library beginning in the fall of the 2022-2023 academic year.

Augustana College is a selective liberal arts and sciences college of 2,400 students, including 19 percent first generation college students, 22 percent Pell Grant students, 23 percent students of color, and 13 percent international students. POSITION OVERVIEW:

Augustana College’s Thomas Tredway Library, past winner of the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, seeks an energetic, motivated, intellectually curious research and instruction librarian with a passion for teaching and supporting undergraduates and a commitment to the role of the library in a liberal arts education.

The research and instruction librarian position includes responsibilities as liaison to the college’s humanities division (including the departments of classics, English, history, philosophy, religion, and world languages, literatures, and cultures), as well as a coordinator role within the library to be assigned according to the candidate’s interests and abilities. As part of the library’s four-person research and instruction team, this position shares responsibility for course-integrated information literacy instruction in the college’s First Year Inquiry sequence.

Augustana’s librarians work in an environment where the student experience is central and information literacy is well-integrated into the curriculum. Therefore, this position requires extensive information literacy instruction; creative and innovative thinking about teaching, learning, and research; strong collaborations with librarians and classroom faculty; and dedication to promoting students’ sense of belonging throughout the library’s spaces and activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaison responsibility with classroom faculty in the humanities division
  • Extensive course-integrated information literacy instruction in collaboration with faculty in the humanities division and the First Year Inquiry sequence
  • Research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and public patrons
  • Collection management for the humanities division
  • Active engagement in a coordinator role to be assigned according to the candidate’s interests and abilities
  • Active participation in the campus community
  • Evening and weekend on-call duties on a rotating basis as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent), or expected completion of the degree by August 2022
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a diverse audience, including faculty, administration, staff, and students
  • Interest in providing information literacy instruction within a student-centered educational environment
  • Commitment to teamwork and willingness to collaborate
  • Commitment to fostering equity and inclusion

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Educational background or demonstrated interest in one or more of the disciplines represented in the humanities division (classics, English, history, philosophy, religion, and/or world languages, literatures, and cultures) or a related field
  • Experience providing research assistance and/or instruction to undergraduates
