PDA Series: (In)visible Forces: A Critical Management Studies Perspective on Managing Staff During a Crisis

Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Presenter: Silvia Vong

Critical Management Studies (CMS) is an area of study that examines management theory and practice through a critical lens. CMS identifies (in)visible forces that come in the form of social, economic, and political forms. These forces have impact on those in positions of power and privilege, however, these forces are an even stronger impact on marginalized groups and people during a crisis. This session introduces the CMS field and analyzes the current COVID crisis through the CMS lens.

Silvia Vong is Head of Public Services at the John M. Kelly Library in the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto. She is also working on her doctoral studies focused on the impact of organizational culture on racialized women in leadership roles in the higher education setting.
