Part-time Lecturer - Chicago State University

The Chicago State University Library seeks reliable, energetic, service-oriented individuals for the position of part-time lecturers in the Reference and Instruction department for weekends and evenings. Library and Information Science professionals who are interested in a user-focused, academic library are encouraged to apply. Lecturers report to Chair of University Library Instruction Services. Lecturers will provide general reference services as part of a team of professionals and will assist in offering reference services to support the library’s academic mission. The successful candidate will provide reference service during off-peak hours, including Sundays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Mondays through Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a 15-28 hour, 9-month, August 16-May 15 non-tenure track faculty position. Evenings and weekend hours are required.

The position requires the execution of all job responsibilities and duties in full compliance with all applicable state mandates, university rules and Federal regulations. Position entails cooperation with the directives and initiatives of the Office of Compliance and its efforts to promote a culture of compliance throughout the university.

ALA-accredited MLIS degree or equivalent is required.

  • Reference experience. Strong commitment to quality reference services; proven experience in providing reference.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in reference services, information technology, and online library resources.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds are necessary.
  • The ability to work independently and part of a team is necessary.
  • The ability to understand and maintain department and library policies.
