Instruction and Research Librarian/Assistant Professor - Prairie State College

This is a tenure-track faculty position that provides professional instruction, reference service, and collection development for students, faculty, and staff of the College, in support of programs, courses, and the information needs of the College community. Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of developing and maintaining the library’s instruction and reference programs at the scope and caliber that best support the College’s mission and academic programs and incorporates ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
  • Leads and coordinates the development and implementation of pedagogically appropriate information literacy instruction for both traditional and online students, including acting as liaison to teaching faculty in our embedded librarian programs.
  • Works closely with librarians and the College community to develop information literacy curriculum that furthers the library’s mission and goals.
  • Works closely with librarians to develop and maintain a collection of asynchronous learning objects, such as LibGuides and other tutorials.
  • Collaborates with library and college faculty to build assessment data that documents library teaching and reference contributions to the college’s academic mission.
  • Takes a leadership role in identifying and implementing emerging technologies and incorporating best practices into instructional services.
  • Informs instruction through needs identified by reference and research services data.
  • Responsible for Reference Services; coordinates staffing both physical and virtual reference desks.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and recommends new innovations to improve usability and patron knowledge of reference services and tools.
  • Works collaboratively across library departments to support library instruction initiatives.
  • Conducts collection development activities.
  • Maintains reference desk hours.
  • Serves the Library, College, and profession through participation in meetings, committee work, and task forces.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the College’s mission, goals, and strategic plan.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as needed to ensure normal operation of the library.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains an active interest in and knowledge of current practices and discoveries that affect learning resources.
  • Provides advice and support to student clubs and organizations and for other activities that help promote student involvement.
  • Participates in public and community service activities.
  • Participates in the professional advancement of the discipline and in professional growth and development opportunities.
  • Upholds the ethical standards and principles particular to the library, and contributes toward the advancement of the College.

Minimum Qualifications

  • ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science.
  • Ability to work and interact well with diverse students, faculty and staff.
  • Strong oral, written and computer skills and a service orientation.

Anticipated Work Hours and Days

8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Monday through Friday 35/week, nine-month contract
