Hunter Collection Cataloging Intern - The Pritzker Military Museum & Library

The Pritzker Military Museum & Library Special Collections is looking for an intern beginning in May of 2017. This is a unique opportunity for a student or recent graduate to get hands on experience cataloging historical artifacts (3D Objects). This is a paid part-time position (20-25 hours per week) that will begin between May 1 and May 22, 2017 depending upon scheduling.

The Pritzker Military Museum & Library is hiring a single Hunter Collection Cataloging Intern. Under the guidance of a mentor, the Hunter Collection Interns will be organizing, cataloging, and possibly scanning posters, photographs, artifacts, and other special collection materials from the World War I Hunter Collection. This work will be done at the library's remote facility off the Brown Line in the North Center Neighborhood. This position requires some experience or familiarly with MARC 21, RDA, and cataloging into the OCLC database. Candidates who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.

Hunter Cataloging Intern Essential Position Qualifications:

  • Master's degree level course work in Library Science or Public History
  • Experience or familiarity with Cataloging in the OCLC database
  • Experience or familiarity with MARC 21 and RDA
  • Experience or familiarity with Archival work
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Computer orientation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in teams and independently
  • Research skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Hunter Cataloging Intern Assigned Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Rehouse Special Collection materials
  • Organizing and Inventory Special Collection materials
  • Collect metadata per library cataloging standards
  • Create catalog records both in OCLC and in local ILS
  • Use large and medium format scanner to digitize Special Collection materials
  • Add digitized image and metadata to CONTENTdm
