Announcements:

  • Minutes from the July 28, 2011 meeting were approved.
  • CARLI report - Lorna Engels: There was no news to report
  • IUG report: IUG has not met since our last meeting. They will convene again on September 23, 2011.

Old business:

Wiki

  • There was further discussion on whether to maintain the wiki.  Agreement was reached to strip all content currently populating the wiki and to start fresh with new material.
  • Lorna will create a survey using Survey Monkey to distribute to public services librarians in the CARLI network to determine:
    • Is there interest in using the wiki?
    • Will they contribute content?
    • What type of content would they like to see included?
  • Survey questions will be shared with the team for further input before next meeting.

Fall workshop

  • It was agreed that no fall workshop will be scheduled.  Alternate plans for a webinar will be considered.  Topics needed.

Unconference

  • The question of whether an unconference could be conducted in webinar format was raised to offset travel allocation issues.
  • Organization of both an in-person, structured Spring forum and a webinar unconference were discussed.
  • January was picked as a potential month for the unconference to occur.  A particular date for the event will be discussed in the September meeting.
  • Each discussion group will need a moderator and rules of conversation will need to be strictly upheld (e.g. raising hand in webinar to gain permission to speak).
  • Susan will look for more information on unconferences and will send what she finds to the group.
  • Lisa Hinchliffe (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Melissa Wong (San Jose State University and adjunct lecturer at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) were identified as potential contacts to help in planning and coordinating the unconference.
  • Potential themes and the number of chat rooms (aka discussion groups) still need to be determined.

Spring forum

  • Lorna will connect with Dr. Sharon Chubbuck, who could speak on working with multicultural students, to learn whether Dr. Chubbuck would be willing to attend a full day forum or would rather serve as a keynote speaker.
  • More information on Dr. Chubbuck (Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI) may be found at http://www.marquette.edu/education/faculty_staff/sharon_chubbuck.shtml

New business:

  • No new business to report.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.m.

Next meeting: Tuesday, September 20, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
