Fully Remote - CMC Special Project Cataloger (1 position) - Temporary Full Time -  Illinois Heartland Library System

Are you looking for a fully remote position that will allow you the comforts of working from your home? We are seeking a qualified individual for a special project; this is a temporary full-time position (40 hours a week minimum) that will allow for full-time benefits. The job will begin August 1, 2022, and end June 30, 2023. 
The CMC Special Project Cataloger will merge duplicate bibliographic records in a library database. This is a temporary, full-time position with benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Merge duplicated bibliographic records in a library database.
  • Updating and deduplicating electronic resource records in a library database.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with internal staff, staff from
  • libraries, and other relevant community leaders.
  • Maintain accurate statistics.

Minimum Education and Experiences:

  • MLS degree from an ALA accredited library school with coursework in cataloging, a
  • Library Technical Assistant (LTA) degree, and/or at least five years of experience in
  • original and copy cataloging.
  • Five years of experience in cataloging of all formats of library materials using machine readable cataloging (MARC) records.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with Ex Libris’ Alma library services platform.
  • Managing electronic resources.
  • Experience with computerized cataloging databases, with experience in OCLC
  • Connexion preferred.

Licenses or Certifications Required: Valid driver’s license or other certification to travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Good working knowledge of the principles and procedures of professional library work
  • including methods, practices, and techniques of library cataloging and classification.
  • Excellent knowledge of computerized cataloging.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard bibliographic sources, bibliographic form, and
  • verification tools.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with IHLS staff and staff
  • from other libraries.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including
  • customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of
  • customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to work in an organization that embraces customer service.
  • Ability to use a computer and Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and teleconferencing systems such as Zoom or Teams.
  • Ability to be timely in responding to requests.
  • Ability to be flexible, to use time wisely, and to perform duties in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to help others accomplish their objectives.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude towards co-workers, libraries, and job duties.
  • Ability to share work screens with collaborators.

Telecommuting:

This position will be a fully remote position, but the successful candidate must reside in Illinois.

Physical Effort:

  • Primarily sedentary work, but also requires standing, walking, stooping or crouching,
  • kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, grasping, lifting, feeling, hearing and talking.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less with the ability to adjust the eye to bring objects into
  • sharp focus, clarity of vision at 20 or more feet, and the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to concentrate on detailed information over an extended period of time.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer.

This position has a salary range of $41,737.00 - $62,606.00. We currently have one available position to fill within the organization.
