Evening Access Services Specialist — Illinois Institute of Technology

The Evening Access Services Specialist will support the library’s mission by overseeing service points in the Access Services department. This will include the evening operations of the library’s Circulation Desk and Group Study Suite (GSS) Desk, as well as administration of the library’s Group Study Suite service point. This position requires practical knowledge in searching bibliographic databases; using Integrated Library System software platforms such as Ex Libris Alma/Primo; and office productivity suites like Google Apps. Supervision of library Student Assistants is a major responsibility of this position. As a member of the Access Services Department, the Access Services Specialist provides staffing for the circulation desk, serving a diverse community of faculty, staff, and student patrons of the Paul V. Galvin Library.

The Access Services Specialist position requires a set of well-developed written and verbal communication skills, as the position will interact with the diverse IIT campus community and will be required to communicate library policies, services, and procedures to all patron groups. The position requires a high level of communication with student assistants to develop work plans and ensure coverage of the Circulation and GSS public service points. Proficiency with both in-person and digital forms of communication, including videoconferencing and email, is required.

The schedule for this position will be evenings Sunday to Thursday during the academic year, and may vary during breaks.

A bachelor’s degree, LTA or comparable experience in the Access Services department of an academic library is preferred.
