Circulation Evening Supervisor - Wheaton College

This position supervises, during evening weekday hours, circulation desk functions including physical materials, stack maintenance, and re-shelving at Buswell Memorial Library, assists patrons with library equipment usage, answers patron inquiries, and prepares daily outgoing courier shipment. The Circulation Assistant Supervisor reports to the Circulation Services Supervisor and supervises student workers. The hours for this position are 20 hours/week, 9 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises circulation desk activities during evening weekday hours, including the circulation of physical materials and assisting library users.
  • Trains and supervises circulation student workers
  • Prepares the courier service shipment; may process retrievals for shipment
  • Answers patron inquiries in person, and by phone, mail, and email
  • Processes course and permanent reserve materials and creates course lists in library system

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or two years of customer related, supervisory, or detail-oriented work experience
  • Prior library experience preferred
  • Familiarity with I-Share, Alma, PrimoVE, ILLiad, and/or OCLC ILL a plus
  • High accuracy with details, data, and workflow procedures
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds, to push or pull wheeled carts loaded with books, and to correctly distinguish letters and numbers printed on physical books and labels.
