UIUC Campus Network Upgrades

The UIUC campus networking staff are upgrading routers on campus this weekend and next weekend. One of the routers in the data center failed last night at 8:30PM and has been powered off until it can be replaced. There have been a few short network disruptions to the CARLI servers during the last 12 hours and there could be more today and tomorrow.

Starting Voyager Migration to Linux

We are getting ready to start the Voyager migration from Solaris to Linux. Most services will be online during this work, but we are about to take Voyager Cataloging and Acquistions Clients offline to make sure records are not updated while we are reindexing data. I will post another message when the migration is complete.

Voyager Linux Migration Friday, July 12th

At 5PM on Friday, July 12th, we will start the process of migrating our Production Voyager system from the Solaris operating system to Linux. This migration mainly involves rebuilding the Voyager keyword indexes on the new Linux server. During this migration, we will turn off access to Voyager Cataloging and Voyager Acquisition staff clients to avoid any record edits/updates during the index rebuild process.

Production Voyager Outage

All Production Voyager services (including VuFind and Classic WebVoyage) will be offline Friday, June 21st at 5pm through Sunday night, June 23rd. The Reports Server will be available throughout the weekend with data as of 5pm on Friday, June 21st. The Reports Server will be current again when all Voyager services come back online on Sunday night, June 23rd, and will continue to be updated normally after that.

No Report Server Downtime June 21st

In my announcement yesterday, I mentioned that the Reports Server data would be static for two weeks after we migrate Production Oracle to Linux. This would impact year-end fiscal reporting that libraries need to run, so we have developed a new plan that will allow the Reports Server to continue working as normal after we migrate Production Oracle to Linux.

Voyager Outage Starting 5PM Friday, June 21st

Starting at 5PM on Friday, June 21st, we will power down our Production Voyager servers and migrate the Oracle databases from their current Solaris server to a new Linux server. All Voyager services (including VuFind and Classic WebVoyage) will be offline during this event. We plan to have everything up and running again Sunday night (June 23rd).

For the two weeks following this Oracle migration, data in our Reporting server (on Solaris) will be static while we build a new Reporting server (on Linux).
