CARLI Digital Collections Featured Image: Woman & turkey

From The Jack Bradley Photojournalism Collection (Bradley University) in CARLI Digital Collections.

This image of a woman holding a turkey was captured by former Peoria Journal Star photojournalist Jack L. Bradley. After serving as a combat photographer during the Korean War, he worked as a newsreel photographer for a Peoria television station before joining the newspaper in 1955.

The digital collection contains more than 2,000 images digitized from photographic prints, 35mm slides, and negatives held by the Cullom-Davis Library’s Special Collections Center. The majority of the photographs, shot mostly in black and white between 1955 and 1977, were used for the Journal Star’s Sunday feature pages. These photographs document people, places, and events in central Illinois, with an emphasis on human interest subjects such as small town life, architecture, farming, sports and recreation, religion, cemeteries, politics, the homeless, the Illinois River, and country scenes.
