Assistant Professor of Information Literacy/Instruction Librarian - North Park University

North Park University seeks an instruction librarian for a ten-month, tenure-track faculty position. As a member of the information literacy faculty, this individual will collaborate with faculty members to teach and assess information literacy and research skills that are appropriate for the discipline and course level. North Park’s information literacy program is based on ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.  Faculty members are expected to engage in research and serve on university committees.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach information literacy and research skills via course-integrated instruction.
  • Provide individualized research consultations to students during office hours and by appointment.
  • Use a variety of learning technologies to teach information literacy and research skills to remote learners.
  • Serve as a liaison to academic departments to scaffold information literacy skills into departmental curricula. 
  • Engage in collection management by selecting appropriate books, journals, and databases.
  • Maintain awareness of information literacy standards and learning theories 
  • Serve on campus committees, engage in professional development, and fulfill other expectations of NPU faculty members.

Essential Qualifications:

  • MLIS from an ALA-accredited program and a second graduate degree.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience in instructional technologies such as learning management software and LibGuides.
  • Understanding of current issues and trends in information literacy.
  • Strong commitment to serving the needs of students and willingness to advocate for their needs.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students and employees.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail and manage multiple tasks.
  • Personal commitment to North Park’s mission of Christian higher education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering library instruction in an academic setting.
  • Background in the health sciences or other science field.
