Access Services Librarian - Erikson Institute

Erikson Institute, a graduate school located in downtown Chicago, is seeking to hire an Access Services Librarian.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Edward Neisser Library houses a unique collection of approximately 20,000 volumes that support the social work, child development and early childhood education curricula at the Institute. We seek an innovative, energetic, and tech-savvy Access Services Librarian to join our small and collaborative staff to coordinate the activities at the main service desk in the library. We are looking forward to returning to campus for in-person activities in the Fall and intend to maintain the flexibility to work remotely 1-3 days per week, depending on staffing needs and library staff interest.

Reporting to the Library Director, the Access Services Librarian will:

  • Manage the hiring, training, scheduling, and wage budget of student library employees covering the desk for approximately 22 hours/week.
  • Assist patrons with in-person and virtual reference and research questions, approximately 2-3 hours of desk service provision daily.
  • Responsible for collection maintenance, and operating the circulation, security, and inventory systems at use in the library.
  • Responsible for processing required course materials and copyright payments, and assisting in processing interlibrary loan requests, including scanning and OCR of requested materials.
  • Coordinate with disability services to respond to accommodation requests
  • Other duties as assigned; some evenings and weekends may be required.



  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent
  • Evidence of strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Flexibility appropriate for a dynamic, collaborative work setting


  • Minimum 2 years of public service experience in a library
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in service models in an academic library
  • Experience with LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibAnalytics, and/or ABBYY FineReader
  • Experience with Ares and ILLiad software and with Koha or another ILS system.
  • Supervisory experience
