What is the proposed product or service?

Music Online (includes Smithsonian Global Sound, Classical Music Library, African American Song)-- Alexander Street Press

What does it do?

Provides 3 streaming audio databases.

What problem does it solve?

Provides streaming audio service of a wide range of music covered by the curriculum at this institution, especially in areas of world and ethnic music, which, in the past, has been neglected in favor of Western music.

Is it the only product or service that does this?

Other streaming audio services are available (e.g. Naxos Music Library), but they do not not provide the equivalent comprehensive, multicultural coverage.

Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service?

No

What is the advantage of doing this consortially?

The Music Education Cooperative Collection Partnership, to which WIU belongs, has ascertained that consortial pricing would be offered for this product. I am confident this would prove to be an attractive proposition to most members of our group, as well as many other academic libraries throughout the state.

CARLI Actions on this Product

Referred to Eresources working group for consideration as a purchase. Two other Alexander Strret products were chosen instead.
