What is the proposed product or service?

The I-Share OPAC Team feels strongly that a spellchecking tool of some kind should be incorporated into the catalog.

What does it do?

What problem does it solve?

Ideally, it would increase the number of successful searches, thereby reducing frustration and improving patrons' research experiences.

Is it the only product or service that does this?

Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service?

Yes, it will require integration with the WebVoyage OPAC.

What is the advantage of doing this consortially?

Implementing a spellchecking tool will likely require a large investment of developer time, and therefore may not be feasible at the individual library level. It would, however, represent a significant enhancement to the functionality of a consortial product, and benefit all I-Share libraries.

CARLI Actions on this Product

This suggested has been tabled for now. VuFind offers spell-check functionality and that functionality may be a part of webVoyage 7.0 which will be implemented in summer 2009.
