Product or Service Suggestions
Date submitted: 2007-02-05 16:59:15 What is the proposed product or service?Online Wall Street Journal subscription What does it do?The online version of this leading financial newspaper does contain some content not available in the print version. It goes back to 1984, although ProQuest's Historical Newspapers carries the whole run from 1889 to 1989. It would be great to have access to the full-text. What problem does it solve? While most libraries subscribe to the print version, the $4,000 subscription fee for the online is prohibitive. This would also make the microfilm backup unnecessary. Is it the only product or service that does this?It is not available through aggregate databases; it must be purchased by itself through ProQuest. Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service? It would be similar to the subscription to the Chronicle of Higher Education. What is the advantage of doing this consortially?Hopefully, there would be a price benefit. CARLI Actions on this ProductAt the February 2007 meeting of the PSVC, the commiittee refered this suggestion to the E-Resources Working Group. Future suggestions for electronic resources will go directly to the ERWG. The suggestions will only come back to the PSCV if ERWG recommends consideration of central subsidization. |
