What is the proposed product or service?

Catalog Enhancements products from Syndetic Solutions.

What does it do?

This is a servive that provides cover art, tables of contents, summaries, reviews, author notes, etc. to enhance bibliographic records.

What problem does it solve?

These enhancements provide patrons much more information about the items they are considering checking out or ordering from another library. Plus they make the records look more like what patron are used to seeing in Amazon.

Is it the only product or service that does this?

Pretty much - Baker and Taylor provides some of this information in another product, but has many fewer records and not all the same sources.

Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service?

It is a vendor hosted solution that requires only a couple of lines of code to work.

What is the advantage of doing this consortially?

All libraries would benefit from enhanced records. If a CARLI-wide purchase is too expensive, we could consider other options for partial funding by interested libraries.

CARLI Actions on this Product

The CARLI Board has decided to license this product for one year for use with the Universal Catalog. This will serve as a pilot so that individual libraries can determine their interest. CARLI has also negotiated discounted pricing for libraries who want to add content elements to their own catalog.
