What does it do?

Provides on demand access to over 12,000 educational films. This is direct access from website to computer. It eliminates VHS & DVD formats and delivers the content directly to the user. It allows multiple simultaneous users.

What problem does it solve?

Space,instant access, multiple users, can't be stolen or broken. Allows multiple simultaneous users, so avoids squabbles and booking problems. Available 24X7 to students.

Is it the only product or service that does this?

They control their content.

Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service?

No, but could catalog the films.

What is the advantage of doing this consortially?

Buying power, it would be great for all colleges to have complete access to all of their films.

CARLI Actions on this Product

The PSVC has refered this suggestion to the Collections Working Group. The CWG should take a look at this type of product and advise the PSVC if the content is desirable and if there are advantageous consortial pricing models. The CWG should also look for competing products with similar coverage. February 2007 update - the Collections Working Group liked the product but did not recommend central funding. Also, this would be a bid situation. CARLI staff will follow-up with suggestor.
