What does it do?

Provides libraries with effective assistance in the management of electronic products in the areas of copyright, licensing, access information, trials, statistics, and vendor information.

What problem does it solve?

Existing acquisitions and access information is kept by most libraries in different formats and locations with no single point of entry or maintenance, creating many inefficiencies and access problems for users.

Is it the only product or service that does this?

Several vendors offer varying products, only an ERMS offers this level of integration for the problems mentioned above.

Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service?

Ideally, it would integrate with other CARLI services, but it is not essential.

What is the advantage of doing this consortially?

Price consideration, consistency in training and documentation, reduced technical burden if hosted centrally.

CARLI Actions on this Product

The PSVC recognizes the interest in this product area, but also recognizes the confusion that surrounds ERMS functionality. The PSVC recommends that the staff and I-Share Acq/Ser group plan ERMS information sessions that include demos of some of the products. These sessions will help the PSCV guage the breadth of interest in ERMSs. An RFP for an ERMS was released in September 2008.
