What does it do?

First of all, I am sending this suggestion on behalf of I-Share IUG committee, which has discussed this topic. Social bookmarking and tagging tool, such as Penn Tags at U Penn Library (a Voyager library) at http://tags.library.upenn.edu/. Social bookmarking and tagging, for locating, organizing, and sharing favorite library resources.

What problem does it solve?

Make library resources more interactive; allow users to organize and share OPAC records and database records in a personalized and interactive way.

Is it the only product or service that does this?

Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service?

What is the advantage of doing this consortially?

Individual library may not be able to do it without I-Share help, due to the way Voyager is configured.

CARLI Actions on this Product

The PSVC felt this was too general a suggestion for any specific action. We urge the Public Services Working Group to include this in their discussions of social networking software. The broader social networking topic might also be appropriate for a Forum. October 2008 - some of this functionality is included in VuFind.
