Product or Service Suggestions
Date submitted: 2006-09-12 11:06:00 What is the proposed product or service?HarpWeek, 1890-1912 What does it do?HarpWeek is the full text electronic version of Harper\'s Weekly. It is a high quality, original source database, supporting a variety of disciplines. What problem does it solve?HarpWeek is sold in modules of 5 year incremants. Prior to the CARLI merger, IDAL purchsed modules of HarpWeek covering the period 1857-1889. Failure to acquire the remaining segments has made the product less effective. For the last academic year the partial product was used on 75 CARLI member campuses and had 179,000 page downloads. It is the ERWG\'s recommendation that CARLI complete this acquisition with central funds. Is it the only product or service that does this?It is the only electronic version of Harper\'s Weekly. Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service? No, access to the remaining modules can be provided immediately and without CARLI staff effort required. Acquisition would be and amendment to the exisiting HarWeek contract. What is the advantage of doing this consortially? This is a one time purchase with perpetual rights. Access is provided to all CARLI member institutions at a percent of the aggregated cost of institutional purchase. CARLI Actions on this ProductThe PSVC has recommended this purchase to the Board who will consider it at their November 17, 2006 meeting. |
