Product or Service Suggestions

What is the proposed product or service?

Odyssey

What does it do?

There has been a flurry of discussion regarding the Odyssey standalone module. Odyssey is an ILLiad module that basically allows libraries to scan and send documents to each other. It is FREE and can be downloaded and used by any library from the Atlas Systems web site. The OHIOLINK system has made Odyssey a requirement for all OHIOLINK libraries to use when sending documents, and there has been some discussion of doing the same thing in VIVA (Virginia Academics). Libraries are not required to have ILLiad but it is a good stepping stone for libraries thinking about purchasing ILLiad. I am attaching a few pieces of information that describes ILLiad and a document created by OSU for libraries in OHIOLINK to use when they download ILLiad. Perhaps an Odyssey based document delivery solution for Illinois could be setup?

What problem does it solve?

Gives web-based document delivery to libraries without Arial. Would lower postage costs and delivery volume.

Is it the only product or service that does this?

The only free one that I know of.

Will this require integration with an existing CARLI product or service?

don\'t know

What is the advantage of doing this consortially?

It doesn\'t do much good unless the majority of the borrowers/lenders you deal with have the capability too.

CARLI Actions on this Product

The PSVC was excited about the possibility of having a consortium-wide, simple, no cost transmission method for articles. The PSVC referred this to the I-Share Resource Sharing team to determine how difficult this product would be to load and use. They will report back to the PSCV in January 2008. The PSVC thought this would be difficult to set up for the libraries that have not had previous experience with Ariel.
