I-Share Users’ Advisory Group
Report to the CARLI Board
March 17, 2006
IUAG’s last meetings were held on Friday, February 10 and Friday, March 10. IUAG has a meeting scheduled on Thursday, April 6, 2006.
CARLI Board meeting (1/27/2006)
IUAG discussed some of the CARLI Board’s decisions: sending the CARLI User Group report to the CARLI Office for review and comment, agreeing with IUAG’s recommendation to form a group to examine and revise the I-Share Resource Code, and changing IUAG’s name from ILCSO Users’ Advisory Group to I-Share Users’ Advisory Group. IUAG is looking forward to CARLI forming a group to update the I-Share Resource Code and will be on the lookout for announcements for volunteers.
Forums
- Reference/Public Services Forum. The forum was held on February 24, 2006 at the Kankakee Community College. 77 people representing 33 libraries attended the forum. Overall, the presentations were well-received and an overwhelming number of the attendees are interested in a similar forum at least once a year. IUAG agreed to hold a public services/reference forum once a year.
- Consortial Cataloging and Authority Control (CCAC) Forum on March 20 at Kankakee Community College. The forum will discuss upcoming upgrade and Unicode issues and the committee’s ISBN-13 document.
- Voyager Reports Forum will be held on May 11 at Heartland Community College (Bloomington). The morning session will include updates from Cathy Salika on the Voyager releases and reporting functionality and Jan Sung will give a presentation on EIU’s reports server. The afternoon session will consist of multiple concurrent sessions in the afternoon: blob functionality, reports server, advanced report writing and intermediate report writing.
ERM solutions
IUAG briefly discussed the merits of E-Resources Management solutions for consortium libraries, since many libraries are exploring them. Also, Acquisitions/Serials Task Force has discussed ERM’s possibilities from the acquisitions/serials perspective. Kris informed the group that the Executive Board and Susan Singleton are having a mini-retreat on March 15. Stephanie agreed to send a note to Susan Singleton indicating IUAG’s interest in ERMs, but that IUAG will hold on any action until we receive directions from the CARLI Office, Susan, and the CARLI Board.
