Report to the CARLI Board of Directors

January 27, 2006

IUAG’s last meeting was held on Friday, January 13. IUAG has a meeting scheduled on Friday, February 10, 2006.

I-Share libraries’ policies on “assumed lost” items

IUAG discussed an I-Share library’s policy of charging patrons a lost item replacement fee when a book is 60 days overdue. Although IUAG recognizes that this library is not breaking any consortial policies, IUAG drafted a statement for the board to review on this matter.

Voyager Upgrades

IUAG commends Kris and the CARLI Office for providing the detailed e-mail (via Announce) on the activities surrounding the upgrades. We look forward to receiving follow-up e-mails as more information becomes available. IUAG discussed the impact of Voyager upgrades and how IUAG and its committees and task forces can assist I-Share libraries during the transition. IUAG has drafted a statement for the CARLI Board to review.

Forums

IUAG is putting the final touches on the Reference/Public Services Forum. The forum will be held on February 24, 2006 at the Kankakee Community College. Susan Singleton has graciously agreed to introduce herself and briefly talk about CARLI. The forum will also include presentations on SFX and WebFeat, and Jessica Alverson will discuss the results of the WebVoyage usability testing and advocate for more usability testing throughout I-Share and CARLI. The afternoon will be devoted to breakout sessions on various topics: RSS feeds/blogs, the public view of the catalog (Susan Braxton, Illinois State University), Camtasia tutorials, and OPAC customization ideas. In the spring, IUAG will also sponsor a forum on Voyager reports in May. The morning session will include updates on the Voyager releases and new reporting functionality. The afternoon will have two tracks, advanced and basic, and attendees can focus on the sessions that will serve their needs.
