ILA Seeking Nominations for Academic Librarian of the Year

Is the 2008 Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year working in your library or on your CARLI committee? Would you like to recognize their accomplishments and share them with the Illinois Library Community?
ILA is accepting nominations now through May 15, 2008 for the Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year. This award recognizes an Illinois librarian who is making an outstanding statewide contribution to academic or research librarianship and to library development. The award is presented by the Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries (IACRL) Forum and CARLI. ILA is also accepting nominations for a number of other awards. In addition, ILA has a number of other awards available for general nominations. A list of these can be found at www.ila.org/membership/apps/ila_awards.pdf. Some of these include:
- Hugh Atkinson Memorial/DEMCO Award--for "sustained activity and contributions having a lasting impact on librarianship."
- Crosman Memorial Award--for those in the profession less than 10 years who have made significant contributions to the field.
- Highsmith Library Innovative Award--in recognition of a library that has planned and implemented "an innovative or creative service, which has had a measurable impact on its users."
- Intellectual Freedom Award--"for oustanding contributions to the defense of intellectual freedom."
- Librarian of the Year--for "distinguished service and leadership in Illinois libraries," on the local, state, and national levels.
- Jane O'Brien Award--for "a library support staff person who has made and outstanding contribution to the library community."
- Deborah Dowley Preiser Award--for "excellent work in public relations and adult programming."
- Reference Services Award--to a person who has developed "specialized or innovative services or programs," "service to the library profession," "influenced and/or cooperated with persons or organizations within his/her community in the planning or presenting of programs or services," or "reached and affected persons outside his/her own community by deed, idea, and/or example."
- Alexander J. Skrzypek Award--for contributions "to the advancement of library services for the blind of physically disabled in Illinois."
- TBS Technical Services Award--for "a substantial contribution in the area of library technical services."
