Postponing Cutover to New SFX A-Z List
CARLI staff have decided to postpone the cutover to the new SFX A-Z list software.
Many CARLI libraries have been working diligently to prepare to cut over to the new SFX A-Z list this month. Thank you for your efforts to meet the deadline CARLI previously announced. The deadline previously announced was based on information CARLI had from Ex Libris that they would cease to support the old-style A-Z list as of the October SFX update. We have learned that because Ex Libris is still working toward some significant performance improvements in the new A-Z list they have decided to extend support for the old-style lists for at least another month (an official announcement from them, with more detail, should be forthcoming). Because of this, and because some CARLI libraries could use the additional time to complete their customization work on the new A-Z list, CARLI staff have decided NOT cut over to the new A-Z lists this weekend, when we apply the October update.
For now, things will continue as they have been: the current A-Z lists will remain available at the address http://sfx.carli.illinois.edu/sfx***/a-z , while the new lists, with their new functionality, will be available at http://sfx.carli.illinois.edu/sfx***/az . Any individual library that feels ready to cut over to the new list would be free to point its users toward the new list's URL, but CARLI will not yet redirect the old published URL to the new list.
The improvements Ex Libris is working on should reduce the amount of downtime required as the new A-Z list is regenerated for each SFX instance. CARLI intends to continue updating the A-Z list every night, is needed, if at all possible, so these performance improvements will be very important to us.
