In my announcement yesterday, I mentioned that the Reports Server data would be static for two weeks after we migrate Production Oracle to Linux. This would impact year-end fiscal reporting that libraries need to run, so we have developed a new plan that will allow the Reports Server to continue working as normal after we migrate Production Oracle to Linux.

Starting at 5PM on Friday, June 21st, we will power down our Production Voyager servers and migrate the Oracle databases from their current Solaris server to a new Linux server. All Voyager services (including VuFind and Classic WebVoyage) will be offline during this event. We plan to have everything up and running again Sunday night (June 23rd).
For the two weeks following this Oracle migration, data in our Reporting server (on Solaris) will be static while we build a new Reporting server (on Linux).

This Thursday, June 13th from 6PM to Midnight, power will be turned off at the Physical Plant Services Building (PPSB) to upgrade the primary feed to the main transformer. CARLI Production servers are in the PPSB Data Center and we will be cutting over to generator power at around 5:30PM to prepare for the power outage.

This morning at 6:40AM, campus networking staff applied firmware upgrades to various network switches on campus including those in the CARLI Production Data Center at UIUC. This update failed on our redundant 10Gb networking equipment. They were able to get the network online after a few hours but without redundancy. At 12:10PM, they backed out the firmware updates on our data center switches which took services offline for another half hour but restored the network to full redundancy.

A menu and program from the May 31, 1889 celebration of Walt Whitman's 70th birthday tells us that the guests dined on a "Feast of Reason" and considered "The Flow of Soul" afterwards. The eight course extravagant meal must have been planned will in advance to honor the renowned poet.

What I like about this image is it is a snapshot – literally and figuratively – of the beginning of an enormously influential and vibrant professional life. It is also so 1970s: Redmond’s billing is “Black Poet”; his reading is accompanied by interpretative dance and percussion. The drawing at the top of the flyer is fantastic.
