Library Tools Task Force Minutes

June 13, 2006 Conference Call

Present:  Lynn Bierma, Anne Hudson, Peggy Steele, Pamela Salela
Not Present: Terry Huttnlock, Cason Snow, Michel Nguessan

Survey responses aren't what we had hoped for in either quantity or quality. Lacking answers from many libraries. Some CARLI members, because the nature of their library, don't have any of the tools we asked about. Those that answered:  there are not many homegrown products being used. Many responses indicated lack of knowledge of topic; we feel the survey didn't get sent to the correct people at the institution.

At the June 13 conference call it was decided that the task force would do the following:

Gather a summary of answers from SurveyMonkey and send to task force members by June 30 – Anne Hudson
Data observations by June 30 – Pamela Salela

We'll give ourselves time to look at the data and meet again by conference call to discuss the data and create an interim report for the CARLI Board, asking them for decisions on how they want to proceed based on the data so far.  Lynn Bierma will contact Mary Munroe for advisement on who should receive the interim report (if not the entire Board).

No date set for final task force recommendations; will wait for further instructions from the Board.  However, the task force felt that a Directory of all CARLI members definitely needed to be created (contact information for library, director, heads of departments, tech. staff).

We also felt that while SuveyMonkey is a great tool for any survey being sent out that needs "yes" or "no" answers, it wasn't suitable for the type of survey we needed.  We will recommend additional survey tools that may be of better use.
