Metadata for You & Me
Locations and Dates: Wednesday, April 16, 2008, Room 126 at the CARLI Offices in Champaign Thursday, April 24, 2008, in the Orange and Blue Room at the Illini Center in Chicago Time: Trainer: The CARLI Digital Collection Users Group (DCUG) is please to announce that it will be sponsoring two “Metadata for You & Me” workshops on shareable metadata. The trainer for the workshop will be Sarah Shreeves, Coordinator of the Illinois Digital Environment for Access to Learning and Scholarship (IDEALS) at the University of Illinois Library at Urbana-Champaign Metadata for You & Me workshops will assist metadata planners in analyzing and implementing the changes that need to be made to their local metadata to prepare it for sharing with aggregations and other institutions. Topics to be covered include:
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is not intended as a training program in metadata. This workshop assumes some knowledge of metadata, including familiarity with at least one metadata standard (such as Dublin Core, VRA Core, MARC, MODS, EAD, etc.) and a basic familiarity with the concept of metadata aggregation. A suggested reading to familiarize yourself with the concept of shareable metadata can be found at: http://www.firstmonday.org/issues/issue11_8/shreeves/index.html The workshop will be held twice, once in Chicago and once in Champaign. The information covered in each workshop will be the same. Please register for only one workshop. In addition, space at the workshops is very limited. Registration is limited to one person per institution. If space is still available later, we will open the registration up to more than one person per institution.
