ICAT-sponsored MarcEdit Workshops
With funding provided by the CARLI Program Planning Committee, the I-Share Cataloging and Authority Control Team (ICAT) sponsored two hands-on workshops on MarcEdit software on Oct. 25 and 26, 2010. The workshops were presented by the software’s author, Mr. Terry Reese from Oregon State University. Libraries are increasingly purchasing/licensing large collections of electronic journals and books, which frequently come with MARC records provided by the vendor. Libraries often need to customize the records with local access information and to make changes so that the records conform with national standards and/or consortial best practices. MarcEdit software has many features, including allowing library staff the capability to perform batch changes to a file of MARC records on the local PC, before the records are bulk loaded into the ILS (e.g., Voyager). MarcEdit software is available free of charge, from http://people.oregonstate.edu/~reeset/marcedit/html/index.php. Slides: Worksheet |
