I-Share Cataloging and Authority Control Team Forum
November 1, 2006

  • We are pleased to welcome several new employees to the CARLI Office.
    • Lorna Engels joined the staff on July 10, 2006 as a Library Systems Coordinator.  She was previously employed at Heartland Community College in Normal, IL, as an Information Services Librarian.
    • Amy Maroso is another Library Systems Coordinator who joined the staff on August 16, 2006.  Amy was previously employed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a Visiting Project Coordinator for the Illinois Digitization Institute’s “Beyond the Basics” digitization training program.
    • Margaret Chambers is the first CARLI Assistant Director of Communications, and she joined the staff on October 3, 2006.  She was previously the Division Director for Publications for the National Council of Teachers of English.
  • The CARLI website has a new look and feel.  Please visit the URL below to see what’s new.  The website also has links for all CARLI committees/teams, including ICAT.

    Content continues to be ported to the CARLI site from the websites of the three consortia that merged to become CARLI.  Of particular interest to this forum, the task to revise (as necessary) and port the “Selected Cataloging Documents” from the ILCSO website to CARLI site continues.  ICAT team members have been assisting CARLI Office staff in this monumental task.  Please visit the URL below and watch our progress:

  • Training and Forum events – There are several remaining continuing education opportunities for Fall 2006.  Please see the calendar entries on the CARLI website for more information about each event.
    • November 2 – CARLI Bibliographers meeting
    • November 3 – CARLI Annual meeting
    • November 17 – An Introduction to Using Microsoft Access to Create Reports from Voyager.
    • November 30/December 1 – Voyager Acquisitions and Serials training.
    • December 6 – Understanding and Using MFHD training.
    • December 7 – I-Share Acquisitions Team Forum.
  • At its meeting on September 29, 2006, the CARLI Board of Directors accepted the applications from the following institutions to become I-Share participants, with implementation in summer 2007:
    Carl Sandburg College, Galesburg
    Illinois Eastern Illinois Community Colleges (comprised of Frontier Community College, Fairfield; Lincoln Trail College, Robinson; Olney Central College, Olney, and Wabash Valley College, Mt. Carmel)
    Knox College, Galesburg
    Monmouth College, Monmouth
    Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, Peoria
    Trinity International University, Deerfield.
    In addition, the CARLI Board also “pre-approved” the applications of the following institutions, with implementation to take place in 2007-2008:
    Adler School of Professional Psychology, Chicago
    Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Chicago
    Erickson Institute, Chicago
    Harrington College of Design, Chicago
    Rush University Medical Center, Chicago
    Additional libraries may apply to become I-Share participating libraries in 2007-2008.
  • The CARLI Board of Directors approved the purchase for all I-Share libraries of the new Endeavor reporting tool called Analyzer.  Analyzer is a web-based alternative to using Access for generating reports from Voyager databases.  Watch for future announcements containing implementation details.
