Delivery Updates

Register Now for the ILDS Training Webcasts

CARLI will provide training for the new Illinois Library Delivery Service (ILDS) by webcasts on December 12, 13, 14, 18, and 19.  Each webcast will run approximately 90 minutes and each will cover the same material. The webcasts are intended for staff at CARLI libraries who will be working with sending and receiving materials in the new ILDS system beginning service January 2, 2008. Advance registration is required.

The webcasts will be held at the following times:

  • Wednesday, December 12, 1:15 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.
  • Thursday, December 13, 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
  • Friday, December 14, 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, December 18, 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 19, 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

For those who cannot participate in the webcasts, the slides presented on the webcast will be made available on the ILDS website along with a sample training exercise.

Please register at least 24 hours in advance of the session. The registration form and additional details are available at http://www.illinoisdelivers.net/07train/.

CARLI uses the Wimba webcast system. As far in advance of the webcast as possible, participants will need to make sure they can access the Wimba system. Instructions for setting up access to both the web connection to Wimba and the conference call connection for audio are available at http://www.illinoisdelivers.net/wimbaprep.html.

Lanter to Deliver ILDS Supplies to All Sites December 11-14

Lanter will be delivering packages of supplies to each ILDS service location during the week of December 10th. Each site will receive a set of bags (some of the old canvas ones as well as some of the new purple zipper bags).  Sites will also receive some "luggage tag" style label holders for the canvas bags as well as some plastic loops to attach these tags to the canvas bags. Please don't start using these supplies until January 2.

In addition to that, each site will receive a purple bag with documentation enclosed. The documentation includes an instruction guide for the new ILDS, lists of participating locations, and paper bag label and manifest templates that will serve as an offline backup system if/when you cannot connect to the ILDS web label system.

As mentioned above, Lanter Delivery Systems will deliver these materials to ILDS sites the week of December 10th. This is a "drop-off only" run for Lanter, they will not be picking up materials until January 2.  However, please look for the purple bag and make sure you open it as soon as possible so that you can start reviewing the documentation. All of these documents are also in the process of being posted to the ILDS website, http://illinoisdelivers.net.

January-March Holiday Closure Schedules for ILDS

The new ILDS will begin on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.  The courier company, Lanter Delivery Systems, will provide service 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, with the exception of the following holidays:

  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

We realize that many libraries are closed on other dates and we are now collecting those dates for the period of January 2 through March 31, 2008. To designate your closure dates, please fill out the online survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/ILDSdates.

Please complete the survey by December 14, 2007.

For additional information, or with questions about the survey, email support@carli.uillinois.edu.

ILDS Web-Based Label System

The web-based label creation system is in its final form. Staff  are making final preparations to cut over to a publicly available system.  Watch the ILDS listserv for an announcement about when sites can start experimenting with the system.

Transitioning from the Current ILDS to the New ILDS

A number of libraries have had questions about how and when the current ILDS will shut down and how items en route during the transition will be handled.  We will send out more detailed emails about this in the near future, but here's a brief version of the answer for now—remember this applies ONLY to sites serviced by the current ILDS—29 libraries plus the systems. ILDS will pickup and deliver on December 26 and 27. December 27 will be the last day that items are picked up by the current ILDS. On December 28, ILDS will deliver only and will not pickup.  December 31 and January 1 are holidays for the current ILDS (no service). On January 2, Lanter will start providing ILDS service. We expect that January 2 will be pickup service only as they won't yet have materials in their system to deliver. Again, this is for the current direct ILDS sites. If you receive delivery from your regional system now and will be in ILDS as of January 2, please consult with your system about their holiday schedule and yours.

Stay Informed About ILDS

Interest Survey for FY 2009 Database Brokering Program Now Open

CARLI needs your participation in the annual member interest survey. Open now through December 14, the survey will gather information regarding the level of interest in various electronic resources for the FY 2009 (July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009) database brokering cycle. Your feedback will ensure that the CARLI e-resources program includes the resources that will be of the greatest benefit to your library.

Survey results will provide essential information to CARLI and the vendors to begin negotiations and provide database pricing earlier in the year. This will allow CARLI to initiate the selection cycle as early as possible next spring to accommodate the demands of your institutional budgeting. Database pricing will be made available next spring through a secure, password-protected web-based selection system.

The survey is available at www.surveymonkey.com/2007CARLIInterest. Survey instructions have been sent to all e-resources contacts via the CARLI CCG listserv. If you didn’t receive your instructions, or if you have any questions, please email support@carli.uillinois.edu.

New Listserv for Small Libraries

Traveling and meetings take money and time, both in critically short supply for small libraries. CARLI has established an email distribution list called smallerlibs-ig@carli.illinois.edu.

If you work in what you consider a small library, or if you are merely interested in the issues of small academic libraries in Illinois, we invite you to subscribe to the list and to talk amongst yourselves.

The list information page (from which you may subscribe) is at http://carli.illinois.edu/mailman/listinfo/smallerlibs-ig.

New CARLI Member Pages

CARLI has worked for many months to integrate information from multiple databases to create directory pages for each CARLI member library. We're happy to announce that phase one of that project is complete. We invite all libraries to review the information now posted about them on the CARLI web site at http://www.carli.illinois.edu/mem-libs.html. Please send any changes to support@carli.illinois.edu, and include the staff member's job title and email address in addition to their name and phone number.

Please note that CARLI is no longer maintaining the data in the old ILCSO online directory. If you have bookmarked the old directory, please update your bookmarks to http://www.carli.illinois.edu/mem-libs/members_i-s.html.
