Welcome!
You’re looking at the first official CARLI e-newsletter. It’s a work in progress. We’ll be looking at ways to make it more useful, more visually appealing, and easy to find on the CARLI website. We’d love to hear your suggestions about what you’d like to see, and how often you’d like to see it. Take a look and let us know what you think.

News from the CARLI Board
At the November meeting, the CARLI Board of Directors approved two new resources for CARLI members and approved a new member library:
Chronicle of Higher Education Online—Partial Subsidy
We’re excited to announce that CARLI will pay the full cost of Chronicle of Higher Education Online from January 1, 2007 through June 30, 2007 for all members who have returned their membership agreements by December 28, 2006. For institutions returning membership agreements January 1-January 31, 2007 (the final deadline), CARLI will provide full access February 15, 2007 through June 30, 2007.
Beginning July 1, 2007, CARLI will subsidize the annual subscription cost at the rate of 80% for governing members, 40% for associate members, and 20% for basic members, with a commitment to continue this level of subsidy through FY2010. CARLI members will have the opportunity to subscribe to the Chronicle of Higher Education Online for the period July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 as part of the Spring database brokering process. Request a copy of the CARLI press release.
Harper’s Weekly (HarpWeek) 1890-1912—Purchase
CARLI will purchase online access to the full text of Harper’s Weekly (HarpWeek) for the years 1890-1912. We currently offer HarpWeek 1857-1889 to all CARLI member libraries and we’re pleased to add the additional 15 years of coverage. HarpWeek offers a comprehensive historical record and is used extensively on CARLI member campuses. Over the last academic year, the current collection was used on 75 CARLI campuses and had 179,000 page downloads. CARLI expects the interest and research value of the collection to grow with these additional years of full text. Libraries should have access by January 1, 2007. If your library already has a link to HarpWeek, you won’t need to do anything else to obtain the additional years. To establish a link to HarpWeek contact support@carli.illinois.edu.
