Activating your WebFeat Search Page Revised 6/2008 After your site has been built and tested at WebFeat, you will be sent the URL to access your WebFeat. The URL will be similar to this (where “xxxxx” is replaced with a WebFeat designated client ID for your library): http://wfxsearch.webfeat.org/wfsearch/search?cid=xxxxx This URL can be linked to from any page that you want, and deciding where to place the link and what to call it is a local library decision. It is WebFeat’s experience that most libraries link to the WebFeat page from their ‘Databases’ page. The format of the link is as follows: <A href="http://wfxsearch.webfeat.org/wfsearch/search?cid=xxxxx">WebFeatSearch</A> * Each individual library can describe the WebFeat link how they choose. For example, UIC has called WebFeat “qUIC Search” and has provided a link to it from a Quick Links box on their main library page, as well as from their alphabetical and subject lists of electronic resources. University of Pittsburg has called WebFeat “Zoom” and has a Quick Search box (see below) on their library homepage. WebFeat can also provide a "Quicksearch" box for your website that will allow patrons to search WebFeat directly from your library’s homepage (or wherever you choose). To do this, you would include three lines of JavaScript code in the header plus the code for the search form on each page you want it to appear. If you would like a Quicksearch Box, please email Brad at WebFeat. Be sure to include what databases should be searched from the Quicksearch box.
The WebFeat URL itself, when clicked, will go directly to the Search Page if the incoming IP address is one you provided WebFeat. If the IP address is not recognized, the patron will be asked to authenticate. In other words, patron authentication will work for WebFeat as it does for your database providers. |
