Voyager Upgrade Update

I-Share WebVoyage experiencing performance problems

June 16, 2009

WebVoyage, the I-Share public catalog interface, is experiencing performance problems related to the the major changes in its design that were introduced in the upgrade to Voyager 7. CARLI staff are working to address this by adjusting  the WebVoyáge system parameters that allocate memory to services and sessions and we also are in the process of deploying more system hardware to share the increased load. Our Voyager implementation makes use of several Web Voyage servers, and we are expanding the number of servers in the pool. We are rolling out the software memory parameter changes on a server by server basis. As the servers need to be taken offline to be reconfigured, people with an active session on that server will see a temporary interruption to WebVoyáge access as we restart that server.  We do not have current plans to bring WebVoyáge completely offline; as  much as possible we will be rolling these changes out gradually. So you should expect to see intermittent problems and success in connecting for a while.  When and if we have more specific information to share with you on this situation, we will of course do so.

If you are not already doing so, please monitor the CARLI systems status page on the CARLI website for ongoing status updates like this: http://blog.carli.illinois.edu/sys-status/

If you experience any Voyager problems that are NOT described on the status page, please do not hesitate to report them to us at support@carli.illinois.edu

Thank you!
