Voyager Upgrade Update
Update on WebVoyáge bibliographic and holdings displays: Known issues As many of you have noticed, the bibliographic displays in WebVoyáge 7.1 differ significantly from previous versions of Voyager. Some of you have expressed concerns that not enough bibliographic information is showing in the new default display format. As mentioned in our April 17 and June 11 announcements regarding the upgrade, the current “view” of WebVoyáge is essentially Ex Libris’ generic “out of the box” look and feel with only minimal CARLI customizations applied. WebVoyáge 7.1 allows for a great deal of customization and the I-Share User’s Group (IUG) OPAC Team will be working hard this summer discussing which fields to include in the default view, which additional views, if any, should be created for all WebVoyáge instances, and which aspects of the display should be individual libraries’ prerogative to customize as they prefer. The new WebVoyáge also utilizes a different method to display holdings than previous versions of Voyager. We are aware that libraries that may only have MARC 866 field summary holdings are currently seeing these lines display twice in the full record display. Additional problems with holdings not displaying at all are also being investigated. Preliminary findings indicate that many of these issues are due to libraries’ non-standard MARC coding in the holdings record, as the new holdings display is much more compliant with the MARC Format for Holdings Data (MFHD) standard than previous versions of Voyager.
