After Upgrade to Voyager 6.5.3: Index Regerations

Jan. 8, 2008

CARLI staff will be regenerating the indexes in every I-Share database after the upgrade in order to assure full functionality of some of the new features and bug fixes in Voyager 6.5.3.  This process will be completed for a set of libraries each night beginning at 10pm and concluding by 3am.  The first set of libraries' indexes will be regenerated on the night of Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008.

The set of libraries scheduled for index regeneration from Jan. 9 at 10pm until Jan. 10 at 3am are:

ARU, AUG, BEN, BRA, COL, CON, CSC, CSU, CTU, DAC

The schedule for the remaining libraries is still being determined and will be shared with the individual libraries at least one day in advance of their index regeneration date.

There is no degradation to searching the OPAC or staff clients PRIOR to the index regeneration being completed.

DURING the index regeneration process in your library's database:

1. Left-anchored title searches, like Title or Journal/Magazine on the Quick Search page, or title searches executed by clicking hyperlinked "tracings" on the single-record view page in WebVoyage, will return no results.  In the staff clients, all left-anchored searches, such as title, name, or numeric field searches, will return no matches.  All other catalog search functions, including keyword searches, will work as expected.

2. In staff clients, no changes can be made to bib or MFHD records, and no new records may be added or deleted.

Because of this restriction on editing bibs and MFHDs during the index regeneration, production runs of batch changes using Gary Strawn's Correction Receiver and/or Location Changer programs should not be submitted on the day your library is scheduled for this process.  For example, ARU, AUG, BEN, BRA, COL, CON, CSC, CSU, CTU, DAC should not submit Strawn batch changes on Wed. Jan. 9th since their index regeneration is scheduled to begin that night at 10pm.

Please share this important information with those at your library who may need to know, especially staff who may be working at the library during these hours, and technical services staff who use Strawn programs.
