Voyager Upgrade Update
June 16, 2009
SUMMARY Some users who have installed 7.1 clients are receiving error messages after logging on and the client will immediately close. Users may have had the clients installed by CARLI's Voyager Client Update Checker or may have installed clients manually. The error messages are:
"Unable to encrypt data on client"
sometimes followed by the error message:
"No authorized locations found for <cataloging/circulation>. Contact your system administrator."
HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM
IF YOU USE THE CARLI VOYAGER UPDATE CHECKER: The CARLI Office has created a patch to fix this problem for Voyager Client Update Checker users ONLY.
To fix this problem immediately, you will need to manually ask the Update Checker to "check for updates". The patch will automatically be downloaded and installed.
This can be done with the icon on the desktop called "Check for Voyager Updates" or through Start -> Programs -> Voyager Update Checker -> Check for Voyager Updates
Once you receive the "You have been updated to the latest version of Voyager 7.1.0Patch" pop up box, click OK, then you must REBOOT YOUR PC.
After reboot, the clients should work correctly.
Note: If the PC was not turned on today, or you do not check for updates manually today as described above, the Update Checker will run at its next regular time (overnight if left on, or at start up), and automatically update to the patched version.
IF YOU INSTALLED THE VOYAGER CLIENTS MANUALLY: A full Windows Administrator must add the appropriate \Voyager\System\ directory (dependent on where you have installed Voyager on the PC) to the PATH environment variable on the PC.
NOTE: You may need assistance from your local IT staff if you are not a full Windows Administrator or if you are not familiar with editing the PATH environment variable. If you follow the instructions below and find the options grayed out for making the change, please consult your local IT staff.
For example, if the Voyager clients are installed in C:\Voyager, the string C:\Voyager\System\ must be added to the PATH environment variable.
Detailed step by step instructions (Please use caution when applying this change!):
1. Right click on My Computer, choose "Properties" 2. in the System Properties box that opens go to the Advanced Tab 3. click on Environmental Variable button at the bottom 4. in the System variable box (the bottom one), click on "Path" to highlight it 5. Click the Edit button 6. in the Variable value box, DO NOT DELETE WHAT IS ALREADY THERE, simply go to the end of the line, add a semicolon, and add the appropriate \Voyager\System\ directory
For example: If the "Variable value" box said: %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\ you would add to it like so: %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Voyager\System if the clients were installed in C:\Voyager on the PC.
