CARLI membership is open to all institutions that are recognized by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) and that are an ILLINET member. Other academic or research institutions that have a similar academic or research mission and the potential to contribute to the advancement of CARLI and its members, but don’t meet these criteria may petition the CARLI Board for membership by submitting the Membership Questionnaire and Application.
CARLI offers 3 categories of membership each with different entitlements and responsibilities:
While individual member libraries retain autonomy over their own operations, participation in CARLI requires collaboration and commitment to the consortium. As a consideration for acceptance and continuation of any level of membership in CARLI members must agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the CARLI Membership Agreement and any other subsidiary agreements governing participation in a specific CARLI service.
CARLI member institutions may upgrade to a higher membership level by submitting a new membership agreement specifying the desired change to the CARLI office. Additional services and fees will begin as soon as contractually possible following the receipt of the new membership agreement.
Member institutions may move to a lesser membership level with six-month advance notification in writing to the CARLI Executive Director, and by submitting a new, signed membership agreement specifying the desired change to the CARLI office.
