The Asher Library at Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies contains more than 110,000 volumes, a substantial collection of rare books and maps, over a thousand full-length videos and documentaries, hundreds of current periodical subscriptions, extensive online resources, and thousands of linear feet of materials that form the Chicago Jewish Archives. Spertus seeks a library professional for a part-time, temporary replacement position to assist with general library functions and services for Spertus graduate students (local and distance learning) and patrons.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
General library tasks: circulation (including filling student and patron requests for books and scanned articles), re-shelving of books, occasional staffing of reference desk
Checking in periodicals using the library’s automated system, identifying missing issues for claiming, and shelving periodicals
Filling incoming interlibrary loan requests
Assistance with preparing materials for public programs and student orientations
Preferred skills/training: prior library work experience and Library or Information Systems coursework; basic reading knowledge of Hebrew would be helpful
